20 minutes of organizing magic.
Does this sound familiar? You wake up one Saturday morning and think "TODAY's the day I get organized!" ... and then you open a closet, get bombarded by a tidal wave of stuff,(and overwhelm) and promptly decide it's time to crawl under the covers with a cup of coffee and a good book.
Welp, we've all been there at one time or another. As a professional organizer, I'm here to tell you that getting organized doesn't have to be a daunting, all-or-nothing marathon. It's all about those small, satisfying victories that pave the way to a clutter-free life. Organizing is a habit we can build and it is best to begin small and find your sea legs....one small step at a time.
The 20-Minute Power Purge:
The key is to break it down into bite-sized chunks. Commit to just 20 minutes of focused de-cluttering. Set a timer, put on some energizing music, and tackle one of these low-hanging fruit projects:
Junk Drawer Detox:Â We all have that one drawer (or two...). Dump it out, toss the obvious trash, and quickly sort the rest.
Medicine Cabinet Makeover:Â Â Expired medications? Check! Ancient lotions? Check! Take a few minutes to clear out the clutter and organize what's left.
Spice Rack Spruce-Up:Â Â Alphabetize those spices, toss out any duplicates or ancient herbs, and wipe down the shelves.
Sock Drawer Sort:Â Â Pair up those lonely socks, toss out the holey ones, and fold the rest neatly.
Entryway Edit:Â Â Clear out any lingering shoes, jackets, or bags that don't belong. A clutter-free entryway sets the tone for your whole home.
Magazine Mountain:Â Â Recycle those old magazines (or tear out articles you want to save and file them).
Digital Desktop Declutter:Â Â Delete unnecessary files, organize the rest into folders, and clear out your downloads.
Tips for Staying on Track:
Set a timer:Â This helps you stay focused and avoid getting sucked into a rabbit hole of nostalgia.
Start with an easy win:Â Â Choose a project that you know you can complete in 20 minutes. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and motivate you to keep going.
Don't overthink it:Â Â The goal is to de=clutter, not to create a museum-worthy display. Just focus on getting rid of things you don't need or use.
Reward yourself!  Once you've completed your 20-minute task, take a break and do something you enjoy.
Remember, even small steps can lead to big changes. By consistently dedicating just 20 minutes a day to de-cluttering, you'll be amazed at how quickly your home transforms into a haven of peace and order.
